Starting a Program

The sport of Trampoline and Tumbling combines the strength of artistic gymnastics with the grace of of diving.  There are many reasons for starting a Trampoline and Tumbling program. The reasons will vary from gym to gym, but each coach or director will find many benefits to starting a Trampoline and Tumbling program in their gym.

Here are just a few of the common reasons for starting a Trampoline and Tumbling program:

 All kids love to jump!

Not many of us could imagine what it would have been like to like to grow up without running, jumping, or pretending to fly. Trampoline and Tumbling is one of the only sports that gives you the instant gratification of defying gravity.  Most parents would prefer their kids get proper training in something that is so much a part of being a kid.  With the continual growth of the backyard trampoline craze, parents are yearning for a place that will teach their kids to jump safely.   Hopefully with a little guidance we can relocate that energy to a lifetime of fulfillment in the sport of Trampoline and Tumbling.

Trampoline and Tumbling is great for kids in other sports.

Cheerleaders, divers, ice skaters, & artistic gymnasts are just a few of the athletes who benefit tremendously from this sport. Trampolines have long been used to cross train divers, skiers, cheerleaders, and the list goes on. Trampolines teach air awareness the way no other piece of equipment can. The great thing about Trampoline and Tumbling is that you don't have to spend 20 hours in the gym to be successful.

Equipment is easy.

When you first consider Trampoline and Tumbling you might look at the equipment and be shell shocked.  DON'T WORRY!  If you already have a gym the chances are you have got everything you need to start a competitive program. At the bare minimum all you need is a place to jump and a place to tumble, and you can begin a successful program.

Trampoline, an Olympic Sport!

Yes, that's right!  Trampoline became a full medal sport in 2000.  That's great for all of us club owners and those of you interested in starting a trampoline program. Let's face it, many parents only consider putting their child in a sport  they have seen on TV or know that one day little Suzy could win a gold at the Olympics.

Trampoline and Tumbling is not an all-around sport!

One of the many reasons artistic gymnasts drop out of gymnastics is because sometimes  they have one weak event that is just too much work or is holding them back.  One of the greatest things about Trampoline and Tumbling is that you do not have to be in the same level on all events; for that matter, you don't even have to do all events.  Trampoline and Tumbling is similar to track and field in this way, you only compete in the events that you like or are good at. If your gym only has a tumbling floor, then do tumbling! If  you have a great trampoline coach but they know nothing of double mini, don't do it. This flexibility allows you to build the Trampoline and Tumbling program that is right for you.

Keep clientele in the gym!

How many gym owners loose students from lack of interest? Let's face it - we all do. Not all sports are for all people.  Without offering a Trampoline and Tumbling program your athlete may move on simply because there is no alternative offered.  Trampoline and Tumbling is a natural transition for an artistic burnout. Typically they are not ready to call it quits, but they are also not willing to put in the hours required to maintain their artistic level. With Trampoline and Tumbling, their gymnastics experience will help them to be a success with less hours.  It is also a great way to get boys in the gym if you do not have a boys program. Many of the girls currently in the gym have brothers and sisters that would love to do Trampoline and Tumbling.
